Recommendations from practice

These stories from across ActionAid and partners dig into the role that ActionAid can play in strengthening the movements that we work with - and what needs to change in how we work today.

When “NGO advocacy” doesn't give you want you want - bring down the pillars of power!

Too often NGOs tends to analyse power in a monolithic sense - where a minister in charge of a budget is targeted through an advocacy campaign and its then expected that the minister somehow just lay down flat and abide by the powerful argument of the campaign. Too often this approach doesn't work because we don't do the right power analysis.
One of the power analysis tools Welcome to Denmark used was Pillars of Power, which Søren tells a bit about here. It allowed them to target some of the central institutions that uphold the forceful deportation of refugees and by that slowly but effectively see the whole system crumble.
